According to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), 6,000 illicit and obsolete small arms and light weapons have been recovered and destroyed across Nigeria between 2021 and 2023 in efforts to stem the proliferation of small arms.
The South-East zonal coordinator of NCCSALW, Okechukwu Ugo, disclosed this at a one-day seminar held in Enugu on how to curb the proliferation of small arms and light weapons.
Ugo said the recovery of SALW had helped in ensuring that such arms do not get into the wrong hands to carry out militancy and insurgency.
According to him, his group is doing everything possible to free the nation from illicit arms through collaborations with regional and global partnerships.
