A fire broke out on Tuesday, at the timber market on Kenyatta Street in Uwani, Enugu, affecting at least five shops.
An eyewitness named Joe noticed the fire shortly after the nationwide industrial strike by labor unions was suspended quickly alerted the fire service, which managed to extinguish the blaze shortly after arriving on the scene.
The state Fire Service responded promptly to a distress call received around 9:45 pm, preventing the fire from spreading further in the plywood market.
A firefighter, who chose to remain anonymous, confirmed the swift response limiting the damage to five shops.
