Benue State Chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, has said the group was not involved in any public hearing before the amendment of the state’s anti-open grazing law.
State Chairman of the Association, Risku Mohammed, who was represented by the Secretary, Ibrahim Galma, at a press conference in Makurdi, noted that the amendment of the law that stipulated stiffer penalties for offenders was a ploy to drive away Fulani herdsmen.
Mohammed stressed that while the state government had continued to seize animals belonging to members of the association, at no time had other livestock owned by the indigenes seized.
The Chairman lamented that the people and the government were not ready to give them land for ranching.
