Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has encouraged the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to take aggressive measures to avert coups in the sub-region.
A statement issued by spokesperson, Laolu Akande, disclosed this at a virtual Extraordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS member-states, where Osinbajo represented President Muhammadu Buhari.
The statement discouraged the unconstitutional seizure of power in any shape or form, across the Region.
It added that the summit, which was attended by ten ECOWAS presidents and UN members, was called after Guinean President Alpha Conde was deposed in a coup d’etat on September 5.
