Former Malawi Speaker commits suicide

A former Deputy Speaker in Malawi, Clement Chiwaya, on Thursday shot himself in the head inside parliament, where he had gone for a meeting.

According to a statement from the Malawian Parliament, Chiwaya, who was 50, had gone to discuss vehicle benefits entitled to him when he left office in 2019.

Meanwhile, Police Spokesperson, James Kadadzera, confirmed the incident but refused to give details of the incident.
